Festival Junk

So the festival I'm looking forward to the most right now is HARD Summer. Not sure if you guys have ever been before but it's pretty fantastic. I suppose I'd classify the fest as a solid blend of EDM, but they reach out to different genres too. I've also seen Bloc Party and Little Dragon in years past.

One of the distinct memories I have, potentially my favorite act out of all the years I've been, was seeing James Murpy and Pat Mahoney following the (pour one on the curb) demise of LCD Soundsystem. These dudes had a disco set that ran for a solid 3 hour block. Not one person left, from beginning to end. It's something that relays in my head constantly, wish I could relive it again.

I'm constantly wondering what's lined up for this season. It's going to be big!

Burning Man Prep and Music

I occasionally do some work for Travel Hymns, a music festival travel blog that provides tips and news stories about the big events that take place annually. One of the latest features that caught my attention is their Burning Man prep piece -- having someone from the festival essentially write about the experience the entire time.

I never really considered the music selection Burning Man had to offer. Quite frankly, I can't see a lot of big acts being too game for the conditions at Burning Man -- a willingness to travel and play would be an amazing experience I'm sure, but you also, as a band, probably need to consider the other potential tour dates you're dropping just to be there.

My perception of Burning Man has always been the jam band type of crowd, not really so much focused on the actual songs as much as the actual vibe. I guess that blends in to house music a bit, and there's some of that to be accounted for at the festival as well, but I never considered big name acts taking part in the event. I suppose I'm learning more and more how inviting the festival actually is.

These posts are in development on Travel Hymns, I understand there's a lot more content to be added in the near future. Perhaps then I can really delve into the specific artists I'm mentioning!

Allow me to introduce myself...

My job allows me the ability to listen and stream new music for hours on end. It brings a lot of life to an otherwise low energy desk job -- it's a life saver in other words. My time with the music has allowed me to discover many different artists, more than I can realistically keep track of.

So what to do? Making the longest playlist through Spotify was a starting point I suppose -- but I still found things getting lost in the clutter. I wanted to have a better way to really access the bands and songs that really struck a cord with me. That's when I decided to author this blog!

This blog is basically my 'drunk drawer' for music and artists that I've discovered. They don't really have a place among my regular rotation due to its sheer volume, but I didn't want any of them to go by the wayside. So don't be fooled by the name -- it may be a self-described drunk drawer, but to me it's full of treasure.

I always think the best type of content anyone produces is the type of content they produce for themselves. So knowing that this blog was really stemming from my personal passion for music, I decided it would be a good idea to share it with all of you and see if you find yourself sharing similar discoveries.

Now to start putting things in the drawer...
